New Skipscreen! w/ Pretty Post-download Page

The latest SkipScreen just went live today, so you should get the update automatically. It includes a simple, easy-on-the-eyes post download page.

The post-download page includes tools for sharing a link with friends (lots of services–megaupload to name one–lack this. WTF, right?). It also includes a search bar for searching for files on skipscreen-compatible sites. Now that skipscreen makes it easier to download files from these services, you might as well download more stuff, right? That’s how it’s been for me, at least.

And we threw in torrent search, just to remind everybody that there are still plenty of ways to share files that don’t involve unnecessary pages and countdowns.

Perhaps the most important thing about this update is that it will make SkipScreen less confusing for Rapidshare users by removing the RapidShare “download” button (the one you can’t really click until after the countdown completes anyway) and putting a note on the Rapidshare countdown page reminding people to sit back and let SkipScreen do its thing.

  1. Hi
I think this is a brilliant idea! It’s already saved me a lot of waiting time :)

  2. Hi :)
This post-download page it’s useful but when i click for the download i prefer to stay in the countdown page (Ex: when you download from megaupload).

There is a way to avoid this redirect script?

  3. Well, you can always click the “Go back” button in the top left to remove the post-download page.

We might make this an option someday, but until we have a preference pane that’s not really possible.

  4. your “post download screen” is why i deleted your extension from firefox. what a pain in the ass to close that fcuking nag every time.

  5. REQ: block the post download page from skipscreen. Putting in your own annoyance in place of someone else’s annoyance is of no benefit. Also going to your website on every download only means one thing to me: you’re tracking my downloads. It creeps me out.

    2. Let’s have some config options.

    3. Choosing the ‘best’ server for me on sharebee is plain stupid. How the hell do you what servers work for me and what servers do not work. Megaupload works best for me and your boneheaded software has never chosen megaupload. It always goes to something stupid like ziddu or zshare which I can’t even download from, probably due to the advert blocking I’ve installed. So I have to uninstall skipscreen until that flaw is repaired.

  6. @bookemdano:

Remember, you already have to close the tab without skipscreen. The post download

    @Name:

The post download page is just javascript in the addon itself, it’s not loading a new page.

We might load content from our page at some point, but anything having to do with privacy will be carefully spelled out in the privacy policy at addons.mozilla.org (as per their pretty strict rules).

Config options (like picking a favorite site on sharebee) are coming. That’s our priority for next week’s release.

Re: zshare, that’s a pretty obvious call for us. Megaupload has a captcha, and zshare doesn’t. So for 99% of users zshare will work better.

It works fine with adblock plus too, you just need to add this line to your ‘exceptions’ in adblock plus:

… then zshare won’t be able to tell that you’re blocking their ads ;)

  9. Skip screen helps a lot for in downloading files, but unfortunaltely i notice for the past few days that I can’t even download any file from rapidshare because of skip screen.

It’s just keep on counting down over and over again. coz i tried not once or twice but many times to leave that countdown from 10 in the evening to 8 am, thats 10 hours of waiting and haven’t downloaded that single file from rapidshare.

I tried to use other computer with out skipscreen installed on it and my download file is on the way with in 3 mins. rather than with skipscreen that keeps on counting down for longer period of time and nothing happens.

My question now is how to remove or unistall skip screen from my computer?
your help will be muc apreciated.
    Thank you very much.

you can email me direct the procedure how to unistall skipscreen. to du4ryt@yahoo.com
