So we're pretty sure there's nothing we can do with javascript to speed this up (or we would've done it already). BUT... with skipscreen, the cool thing is that you don't have to spend that time waiting. You just open the tab in the background, and skipscreen will make sure the file gets downloaded. So, the download doesn't start instantaneously, but the point where you don't have to think about it anymore does start instantaneously. @Jn

The timer is still in effect and the addon just tells me "it'll start downloading the file as soon as it's available". I might as well fiddle with the java script manually to deal with the timer then.
